Odisha’s iron ore production rose 9% in September 2017

As per the recently released data by state government, eastern state of Odisha saw an increment of 9% in its monthly iron ore production in the month of September 2017, wherein the state produced 7.49 MT iron ore against 6.87 MT produced in August 2017.

Odisha in the largest iron ore producing state in the country, and contributes nearly 50% to India’s iron ore production. However, due to monsoons, the quarterly output declined to 20.58 MT in July-September quarter of this fiscal from 25.98 MT seen in April-June quarter. This is approximately 21% fall quarter-on-quarter.

On pan India basis, the iron ore production has seen a jump of about 10% in the first five months of this fiscal. For April-August period, the country’s iron ore production stood at 78.1 MT, as compared to 71.13 MT in the same period last year.
