Taiwan Cement ranks as 6th largest producer in China

Taiwan Cement Corp., one of the leading cement suppliers in Taiwan, has become the sixth largest cement producer in China after years in that market, according to Chinese cement market data website Cement.com.

In a report on its website on Monday, Cement.com said Taiwan Cement replaced China Shanshui Cement Group as the sixth largest cement producer in the China market in 2017 after the latter cut production capacity by 8 million metric tons to 51.46 million metric tons.

Taiwan Cement’s production capacity remained unchanged at 54.47 million metric tons in 2017, while its ranking rose one notch to sixth nationwide, according to the website.

In its 2017 annual report, Taiwan Cement said it has built a broad production base in China, operating plants in several provinces, including Fujian, Guangdong, Goungxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan.

Asia Cement Corp., another Taiwanese company with plants in China, remained in 10th place in the 2017 rankings, with a production capacity of 26.63 million metric tons.

Asia Cement currently has production lines in several Chinese cities such as Shanghai and Yangzhou, and in Hubei, Sichuan and Jiangxi provinces, according to its website.

On the Cement.com list, the top five cement producers in China in 2017 were all Chinese companies, namely China National Building Material Co. (376 million metric tons), Anhui Conch Cement Co. (211 million metric tons), BBMG Corp. (112 million metric tons), China Resources Cement Holdings Ltd. (65.78 million metric tons), and Huaxin Cement Co. (58.90 million metric tons).
