Mexican cement output growth to slow to below 3%

16th April 2018

The cement sector is expected to grow by 2.5 per cent YoY in 2018 as public and private infrastructure investments are postponed for the electoral year, according to the President of the National Chamber of Cement (CANACEM), Mauricio Doehner.

“It’s a year in which there is some uncertainty and people, as they say colloquially, it pays to wait. There are investments that are being put on hold to see what will happen after 1 July, and based on that investment decisions will be made, “he said.

Recent years have seen a growth rate of around four per cent in Mexico’s cement sector. And while infrastructure is expected to slow, housing and non-residential building is forecast to continue its current growth trend.
