AO Vostochny Port exported 8.1 million tonnes of coal in January to April 2018

Port News reported that AO Vostochny Port, operator of Russia’s largest dedicated coal port said that it handled 8.1 million tonnes of premium quality export coal in January to April 2018, up 1%, year-on-year. In April, coal exports totalled 2.09 million tonnes. In the 4-month period, Vostochny Port unloaded 106,100 open-top railcars including 82,300 innovative railcars accounting for 78% (up 19 % points). In April 2018, the company handled 27,600 open-top railcars (up 3.3% year-on-year).

On April 6, Vostochny Port achieved a record of daily unloading — 1,117 open-top railcars (82,800 tonnes of coal) having exceeded the norm of Russian Railways (1,070 units) and its own record achieved earlier (1,066 units).

In January to April the company loaded 188 dry bulk cargo carriers of different capacity including 60 Panamax ships (32%) and 21 Capesize ships (11%).

In April 2018, Vostochny Port handled the 300th capesize ship in its history. The FPMC B Guard (deadweight – 180,000 tonnes, length – 295 meters) was loaded with 143,000 tonnes of premium quality coal bound for Taiwan. That was the largest ship handled over the recent months.

During four months the company exported coal to S. Korea, Japan, Taiwan, India, China, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar. Most of coal was dispatched to S. Korea (35%).

Vgrangel, Primorsky Krai based Vostochny Port is Russia’s largest dedicated open access coal port using covered stations for unloading and transfer of coal, conveyor equipment, rotary car dumpers, ship loaders and the second-to-none system of multi-stage magnetic coal separation. The port handles coal mined and exported by Russian coal companies. In 2017 coal throughput at the terminal reached 23.2 million tonnes, a fifth of all coal exports from Russia’s seaports and about 30% of coal trans-shipment in the ports of the Far Eastern Basin.

AO Vostochny Port is a free access terminal, open to all coal producers. The enterprise’s main objective is the increase in coal throughput and the best quality of cargo handling services: ensuring an uninterrupted supply chain and loading the commodity to the most efficient types of vessels for the formation of new supply routes.

Vostochny Port is implementing an ambitious investment project on construction of the coal terminal’s Phase 3 including the construction of the federal railway infrastructure. Vostochny Port’s Phase 3 facilities will be put into operation in 2018 allowing for port capacity to reach 39-40 mln t in 2019. The coal will be delivered from Kuzbass and other coal fields of Russia. Vostochny Port’s Phase 3 is the largest private port investment project in the Far East of Russia. The total amount of investments of the port holding company represents more than 32 billion rubles.

In 2017, Vostochny Port fulfilled the plan for January-December having handled 23.2 million tonnes of premium quality coal. In the 12-months period Vostochny Port handled more than 317,000 gondola car and loaded 539 vessels. In October the company achieved another record with average daily handling of 67,000 tonnes. On October 16, Vostochny Port loaded 83,800 tonnes of coal to the bulk carrier FPMC B108 bound for Taiwan. It took 30 hours to load the ship. In November, Vostochny Port celebrated the 400-millionth tonne from the date of its foundation. The milestone tonne was loaded onto the MBA GIOVANNI.
