Argentina’s cement demand falls 11% in September

The Argentine cement market contracted by 10.6 per cent YoY in September 2018 to 1.012Mt from 1.132Mt in September 2017, according to provisional data by AFCP, the country’s cement association.

The figure includes 1.01Mt of deliveries by domestic producers, down 9.5 per cent YoY, and 1970t of imports, a significant drop from 10,122t in September 2017.

Argentine producers supplied 1.016Mt of cement to the market in September 2018, representing a YoY decrease of 9.9 per cent. Of this total, 6025t was exported, a fall of 7.5 per cent when compared with 6517t delivered to overseas customers in September 2017.

January-September 2018

In the first nine months of 2018, total cement demand in Argentina edged up 2.3 per cent YoY to 8.992Mt from 8.789Mt in the year-ago period. Domestic producers supplied around 8.923Mt to the local market, representing a 2.2 per cent increase YoY. However, imports rose by 23.9 per cent YoY from 56,174t to 69,616t.

In terms of exports, modest gains were made as 52,131t of cement were delivered in 9M18, up 3.1 per cent YoY.
