Indonesia August coal exports slump to 13-month low

23-Oct-2018

Indonesia’s coal exports declined 15% on the month in August to a 13-month low amid slowing demand from key customer China, Bank Indonesia data showed on Wednesday.

The world’s leading thermal coal exporter shipped 1.05m tonnes/day, down 0.6% on the year.

Montel reported last month the country’s September coal reference price was pegged 3% lower on the month – at USD 104.81/t – due to weak Chinese demand for Indonesia’s exports over the preceding few weeks.

Yet exports in the first eight months of the year were still 12% higher than in January-August 2017, at 281m tonnes.
