Senegal cement price rises cut short

23-Oct-2018

Senegal’s Minister of Commerce, the Informal Sector, Consumption and SMEs, Alioune Sarr, has frozen the ceiling for cement prices to their previous levels, according to a press release by the ministry.

“As a result, all cement plants located in Senegal are invited to comply with the new regulatory provisions pending the results of evaluations provided by its services. In any case, the services of the Directorate of Internal Trade will ensure the strict application of the regulations,” the government body said.

Dangote, Sococim and Cimenterie du Sahel had previously taken the unilateral decision to raise the price of a tonne of cement.
