CISA data shows decline in steel output by key Chinese steelmakers

6 November 2017

Recently released data from China Iron & Steel Association (CISA) showed that China’s biggest steelmakers produced 1.8183 million tonnes of crude steel on an average daily basis for 11-20 October, down 1% from the preceding ten-day period.

Major steel mills in China have reportedly curtailed production, with the nearing winters. Moreover it has been widely reported that China has stepped up efforts to curb industrial production in some cities, including Handan, Tangshan and Taiyuan in the north, to fend off smog and clean its skies.

Furthermore, the total average daily steel output in the world’s top producer reached 2.308 million tonnes over the same period, the CISA data showed. Pig iron stocks rose 36.88 percent to 199,400 tonnes, while coke inventories climbed 2.29 percent to 208,700 tonnes.
